Event Information
The ninth meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development will be held from Monday, 13 April to Thursday, 16 April 2026.
The meeting will be open to all Latin American and Caribbean countries.
In-person meeting activities will be held at the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) headquarters in Santiago.
The purpose of this document is to provide delegations with useful information to facilitate their work at the meeting.
The meeting coordinators will be available to answer any questions concerning administrative, logistical or organizational matters, before or during the event.

1. General information on Chile
Geographical location
Chile is located in the extreme south-west of South America, between the Pacific Ocean and the Andes mountains. Its long, narrow territory is divided into 16 administrative regions. The capital city of Chile is Santiago, and the country has a total population of around 19 million.
The capital
Together with its Metropolitan Region, Santiago is home to 7 million people. It has a Mediterranean climate and well-defined seasons, with rainy winters with temperatures as low as 0°C (from May to September) and dry summers, when top daytime temperatures are around 30°C (from November to March). The national currency is the Chilean peso ($). The current exchange rate is approximately 920 Chilean pesos to the dollar (December 2025). 2. Meeting venue
The official sessions of the ninth meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development will take place in the Raúl Prebisch and Celso Furtado Conference Rooms at ECLAC headquarters, located at Av. Dag Hammarskjöld 3477, Vitacura, Santiago. Side events will be held in other rooms at ECLAC headquarters.
ECLAC has a limited number of parking spaces. Only official vehicles of diplomatic missions will be authorized to drop off and pick up members of their delegations. To request this authorization, please send driver and vehicle details (model and licence plate number) to the following email addresses: carolina.jara@un.org and cencoseg@cepal.org.

Reservations must be requested directly from the hotel of your choice, mentioning the block code, before the expiration date indicated. After that date, the hotel reserves the right to change the rate and cannot guarantee that rooms will be available.
• To secure the special ECLAC rate, hotel reservations must be requested directly, not through agencies or other means. Participants are responsible for making their own reservations. You are advised to check that the hotel has processed your reservation and to request a reservation number or confirmation code.
• A credit card number is required to hold the reservation.
• These rates do not include the value added tax (VAT) of 19%. Visitors paying in dollars or with international credit cards are exempt from VAT. In that case, the hotel will request the slip issued by border control upon entry into Chile.
5. Visa and entry requirements for Chile
Participants must be in possession of a passport valid for at least six months beyond the date of entry into Chile. Representatives from countries whose citizens require a visa to enter Chile should apply for one in advance at their nearest Chilean embassy or consulate..
To check whether a visa is needed, participants may contact the Chilean embassy or consulate in their countries. The contact details of the embassies and consulates can be found on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile: https://www.minrel.gob.cl/embajadas-y-consulados.
6. Transport from the airport to Santiago
At the airport, authorized official taxi services (identified by orange licence plates) are available for passenger transport. These services may be booked directly at the companies' kiosks (prior to exiting the airport). Payment is coordinated at the customer service counters of the respective providers. The transfer from the airport to the city takes approximately 30 minutes.

LOCAL TRANSPORT
To get around the city, various services are available:

Street-hail taxis: an onboard taximeter displays the amount to be paid. Payment is made in cash at the end of the trip. In general, drivers are not tipped.

Ride-hailing applications: services such as Uber and Cabify work very well in the city.

Metro de Santiago (underground rail): seven lines connecting the city. You must have a bip! card to use the metro, which is the official means of payment and can be purchased at any station.
- Buses: urban public transportation operating in the metropolitan area of Santiago. The bus services are integrated with the Santiago metro, so they use the same means of payment (bip! card)

7. Registration
Participants must register online. Online registration will be available from 16 February to 8 April 2026 on the meeting website
Online registration will also be mandatory for those participating in side events.
After registration, participants will receive an automatic confirmation of receipt. Once the registration request has been approved, a “confirmation of acceptance” email is sent, which must be presented along with an identification document when picking up credentials.
Online registration of government representatives does not exempt delegations from the formal requirement to send official notification by email to secretariaforoalc2030@cepal.org, indicating the names of the head of delegation and of all accompanying members.
Officials of United Nations system entities attending in person will be able to enter the meeting with their United Nations pass, which must be previously activated, but are still required to register online. To activate a pass, please send images of both sides to the following email: cencoseg@cepal.org.
Credentials can be collected at the ECLAC main entrance (Av. Dag Hammarskjöld 3477, Vitacura), on Monday, 13 April from 8.30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and from Tuesday, 14 April to Thursday, 16 April from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Credentials must be picked up in person, upon presentation of an identification document. For security reasons, participants will be required to wear the badges in order to attend meetings. Badges must remain visible during the meeting

8. Opening session
The opening session of the ninth meeting of the Forum of the Countries of Latin America and the Caribbean on Sustainable Development will be held on Tuesday, 14 April at 8.30 a.m. in the Raúl Prebisch Conference Room.
9. Languages
The official language of the meeting will be Spanish. Owing to budgetary constraints, simultaneous interpretation will be available in English only.
10. Facilities and services at ECLAC
Internet: Wi-fi will be available in ECLAC conference rooms and open spaces. To use it, you will need to register and enter a password.
Bank: There is a branch of Banco de Chile in the basement of the main ECLAC building. It is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Foreign currency can be exchanged from 10 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. To do so, foreigners must present their passport and the document issued at border control by Policía de Investigaciones (PDI) officials upon entering the country.
Medical services: ECLAC has first aid services available.
Meals: ECLAC has a café (open continuously from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.) and a canteen (open from 12.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m.). Participants must pay directly for these services.
Parking: ECLAC has a limited number of parking spaces. Only official vehicles of diplomatic missions will be authorized to drop off and pick up members of their delegations. Other considerations:
- Water in Santiago is potable; however, visitors are advised to drink bottled water.

As in all large cities, for security reasons, it is recommended not to wear valuable jewelry, not to leave purses or briefcases unattended in public places and to avoid using mobile phones in open or crowded spaces.

Tipping is common in Chile, as it is in other parts of the world. In restaurants, it is customary to tip around 10% of the total bill.

In most hotels, breakfast is included in the rate. As mentioned above, ECLAC has a café and a canteen, which participants must pay for directly.
